Q: hi i have a 1998 infiniti Q45 non touring?
the car knocks for 3 seconds after start up then it goes away the car sounds really smooth after words..can it just be a cold start..it does it every other day..am worried! its also a v8 and has 160000 but it sounds and drives smooth thanks for your feed back..
A: Make sure your oil is the proper grade for your engine and is full. If the oil is too thick on a cold day, the oil pump can't send it to the top of the engine right away, causing a bit of tapping. Maybe switching to a thinner grade during the winter would help. It is also entirely possible that the oil pump is worn a bit and isn't pumping at 100% capacity. A mechanic should be able to test the oil pressure and determine if there is an issue with it.

A: Go to tirerack.com and use their calculator.
Q: how do i get the check engine light to shut off once i've replace a oxygen sensor on a 1998 infiniti q45.?
A: Take it to an Auto Zone and they will do it for free.
Q: Catalytic Converter???
OK, so I take my 1998 Infiniti Q45 (179K) in to get the exhaust checked... It's not as quiet as it used to be, but not loud at all. They lifted it up, and just from a visual inspection, they tell me that BOTH catalytic converters are bad - and that each part costs $1,311, for a grand total of $2,915.93 (including installation). There is NO check engine light on, but there is a slight rattle when I accelerate. Gas mileage is pretty good for a V-8 (I fill up about every 6 days), no black smoke, exhaust comes out hot, car does not overheat, so I'm not sure the converter(s) is bad. I looked online, and found these parts (including pipes) for $285. Even if both converters are bad, is this price excessive? Also, how likely is it that BOTH converters are damaged, and how can they know for sure without actually checking the converters out?
I took it to Meineke, and they tried to tell me that that was a dealer-only part.
A: I call bull s***. Get another opinion, NOT an Infinite dealer, an independent.
When catalytic converters go out, they tend to smell like rotten eggs. Before they go out the car's performance goes down noticeably and gas mileage suffers. You're experiencing none of this.
