Q: 1999 Infiniti I30 (Maxima) Tranny Slipping?
I have a 1999 Infiniti I30 that has a transmission slipping in every gear. It only kicks kicks in when I rev it past 2500 RPMs in any gear and I lose it again when I come to a stop or making turns. Is this an indicator for a replacement or something less major? I found a used tranny on eBay for 375.00 that has 56K miles. It was involved in a wreck but the tranny is good to go. Should I purchase that or go somewhere reputable like Aamco and pay much more? How much do you think it would cost me for a used or rebuilt tranny replacement at Aamco?

A: I'd go to a professional transmission shop and find out what's going on and then see what your options are. A used transmission may be just fine, as long as you have some pro's install it.

Q: 1999 infiniti I30 antenna problem?
I need some help with this problem...when i turn the radio on..the motor turns on and tries to let the antenna come out....but its stuck an it makes a bad noise....so i just want to take the power away from the motor....is there a fuse or something that like a plug that i need to take out? please help me!

silver w. black leather. spoiler. everything., fully loaded. all i'd do is tint the windows. Price is like 5,500. it has just under 80k miles. I think I'll look at it next weekend. A: Not to bad of a price .. the I30 is pretty much a maxima with infiniti emblems .. They are Ok if the previous owner took care of it .. if you buy it take to the infiniti dealership .. to look it over check front timing cover , check ecu part # for current status ... and make sure all the seats work ...Oh yeah 190hp is a lot for a front wheel drive car .. torque steer is not to bad

It has 118k and is a limited version....its runs great but the only thing thats wrong is that there is a small tear in the leather on the drivers seat and the antenna doesnt go down or up. is there anything that i should be worried about? and how much is it worth on the streets? i know the kbb was is that right?

Yes, that is 3.75K miles. I am looking at this car to buy which has been driven at an average of 3.75K miles per year for the last 8 years. The owner has been getting the oil changed every year. Which turns out to be about every 3K mile, regular prescribed oil change interval. But on the other hand it is a loooong time between oil changes. I want to know if this may have damaged the engine in any way? Is there a good test I can get done before purchasing the car that can give me some confidence level? Quick answers will be appreciated as I have to finalize the deal tomorrow. By the way, the car is 1999 Infiniti I30. Lived all its life in San Francisco, CA.

A: you should do it at least every six months. The oil companies tell you every 3000 miles or 3 months. That is too soon. I tell my customers to do it at 5000 miles and or no longer that 6 months. You get a lot of moisture built up in an engine and you should not go a full year. there is no shelf life for oil like the one person said. But that is unopened new oil. Once that oil is dumped into a crankcase and ran through the engine then yes there is a shelf life for it. That shelf life is 5000 miles or 6 months. Same thing for canned food. It can sit for ever in a cupboard but once opened it has to be refrigerated and used by the date on can. Same thing for oil.

I have a 1999 Infiniti I30 Ltd with a Infiniti/Alpine LE709 6-Cd Changer, and I was wondering how to hook up my Ipod to my car stereo. I have been using a cassette adapter and have tried FM transmitters, but the sound quality for both just do not cut it. I have read that you can buy an AUX adapter to add onto CD changers to add another line from a mp3 player. Any ideas? Thank you in advanced!

Q: NY to CA drive?
I am planning to drive from NY to CA san diego later this month on my Infiniti i30 1999 with 140 k no problems on the car except for the check engine light which is on , and i am planning to make a drive in 4 to 5 days , the problem is will be driving alone, the max i have driven alone is 1500 miles one way , do you guys think it is a good idea to do this trip since shipping and flying is too expensive also cannot sell and buy car since its too much of a hassle , please help me out with any suggestions and tips you can if i am driving?

A: If you feel the car is in good shape (and you know enough about cars to determine that), I think you can easily drive that distance. if you plan to get an oil change, coolant change, etc before the trip, make sure you do it about a week in advance. Some time bad maintenance work takes few days for it to show up. My brother got his timing belt changed JUST before Boston to NYC trip. It failed 1/2 way down. That cost him unnecessary time and motel stay. I've also driven about 1600 mile (NYC to chicago back back in 2 day). I also driven from NYC to FL (Jacksonville) and back. It was easy to do. Don't wait till it gets too hot and don't wait till it start snowing either. Take your time and see some sights while you are at it - have fun. Get a GPS as it really helps with direction on new hwy. It really relieves the stress knowing what road you are on and where is the next exit (how far the next exit). But take a paper MAP as electronics always fail at the worst time (I had 1 map and 2 GPS). Take a MP3 player with all your music as it really sucks when radio stations comes in and out. But listen to the radio from time to time for traffic and weather. Have somebody you can call to help you. I was calling my friend and my wife and they were looking up weather info online for me. And now, Google map (and iPhone) give you free traffic report. === Carry some spare parts (like extra 4 qt of oil, plenty of water AND coolant, duct tapes, hand tools, jacks, spare tire AND air pump AND Fix-a-Flat). Check your belt. If you haven't done a tranny oil change (required every 30K), then do it now. Good Luck...

A: I would not attempt to do this in 4-5 days with someone else, let alone all by yourself. You need to stop and rest. If you try to drive 10 hours straight without a break you're going to get into an accident. I don't know about your car, if it's in good general condition then it should be OK.
