Q: My 1997 Infiniti I30's positive battery cable is coming loose and the entire cable needs replacing, help!!!
I have it held in place with two nails currently, don't know how long that would work. The mechanic says the cable itself costs $200 and needs to be ordered. Any known alternatives or work arounds? Thanks.
A: tell that mechanic to fook off.
You can go to any auto parts store and get a replacement part. You will need to cut off the old terminal and strip away some of the insulation on the cable. Then you install the new terminal and tighten it down.
If it just so happens that the cable is too short, you can always get a whole new cable for way less than $200.
Bottom line, Find yourself a new mechanic.
Q: Can a genius mechanic help me to understand when to use the O/D feature on 1997 infiniti i30?
On the hand gear the little button labeled OVER DRIVE On/Off exists and when it is in the off position the little orange light symbol lights on the dash saying O/D OFF. This is when the car picks up much faster and shifts much smoother. I notice when the over drive is enabled and clicked in, the car is heavier and slower. I use this feature [Over drive being on and light not being on] in the rain right?Plz.. ;)
A: Overdrive is to be used at high speeds.
Q: IAT intake air temperature sensor location 1997 Infiniti I30?
there are several things plugged into whole air intake area. which of these is the IAT. also: autozone and other parts stores dont even carry them for this car. any suggestions?
A: not 100% sure but check close to the egr valve and egr selonoid. you'll know it when you see it.
Q: how do you clean a contaminated brake line on a 1997 infiniti I30?
A: you need to power bleed the entire system. The safest bet is to take it to a proffesional technician and have thenm do this for you. You will use and lose a lot of brake fluid in attempting to do this yourself. The tech should have a power bleeder tool to flush the entire brake system. If your brake line hoses havent deteriorated yet, it should be a simple and quick repair. But if the rubber lines are damaged, then youi need to start reoplacing these affected lines too.
Q: 1997 Infiniti I30 ODB2 Drive Cycle Help!?
I have an Infinity I30 1997, I went to do an emission test and fail because a check engine light, I fixed the problem, since it was the oxygen sensor (after catalytic) the light went out and retested, it fail because the computer has to be reset, I have read that it has been a problem with this kind of cars, but I love my car and would love to fix it so I can pass the emissions, Can someone please tell me how to do this drive cycle? I have read different ways, but none specific...If someone could please guide me step by step I would really appreciated.
Thanks in advance, moises.
Sorry, I guess I did not explained correctly, I did reset the codes after I fixed the problem and the check engine light has not comes back on, I only need instructions on the drive cycle so I can pass the emission test, since there is about 4 stuff that says that is not ready and I need to pass at least 2 of them to pass.
Thanks for your answers.
Hey Tech, thanks for the answer and the photo, is there anyway to get this photo more clear? I can hardly make out what it says.
Thanks
A: You will first need to have the code cleared, just takes a second with a scan tool. But you will not pass an emissions test unless the car has tested all of the emissions systems and they passed. If you just dump the codes and go to the testing lane, the computer will show incomplete monitors and the test will be refused. Here are the parameters for the computer to run readiness tests:

That code will eventually clear on it's own, but since it is a class A code, it will take 40 drive cycles that pass before it will clear. Much faster to have it cleared with a scan tool and then complete the drive cycle.
Q: Where to get a steering wheel for a 1997 Infiniti I30?
A: A junk yard might have one
Q: Should I sell my Infiniti I30(1997,100k/miles) and get a Subaru Impreza ?
actually a subaru wrx as long as its in good cond. doesnt matter miles... they are all AWD
A: Well this depends what you would prefer to drive. Infiniti's are obviously more spacious, luxurious, and ride very nice. The mileage may seem high but the motor you have will last a long time. On the other hand WRX's are also a bad-a$$ car. Turbo, AWD, how can you go wrong? Subaru's have been known to be very reliable cars as well. If I were you I'd drive the Infiniti as long as I can, save some money, and then buy a WRX once I have a good down payment. But one way or another I would get the WRX.
Q: car starts after 2hrs after previous running infiniti i30?
1997 infiniti i30 starts after 2hrs after the car is turned off. Everything works and replaced the battery. I thought it was the car overheating but it does it at night too when the temp is cool. If you turn the key over all you hear is a click and nothing else. At the same time now the car's remote alarm is not working anymore. Is there a way to reset the car's alarm? is this due to a bad starter or cables?
lights do dim when turning on the car right after turning it off. Does it mean something? thnx
sorry i mean to say the lights do go off
It has a factory alarm system with unlock and lock. The remote works at random times.
I just tried to start the car after shutting it off, the radio lights goes off but the interior lights do stay on. How can I tell if this is the poor cable from the battery to the starter?
A: theres a electrical problem with your anti-theft system.
Q: which one should I get?
I have two options:
1. 1996 Acural 2.5 TL premium package 129k miles selling for $5000
or
2. 1997 Infiniti I30 with 97k miles selling for $5500
Which one do you think should I get?
A: Whichever one a qualified mechanic who has looked them over thinks is the better car.
