my 1996 infiniti i30 has starting problem. i hear the "clicking" sound when i turn my key. however, it dont start. and the aniti-theaf is ringing. i cannot start my car. and it is ringing when i put back the battery. the battery has no problem.fuse is working. do you think it is the relays problem. what is the problem? but the alarm system is on and ringing. if i put back the battery. so the alarm system is on. i cannot start my car. do you still think that it is because of the bad starter?

A: A bad battery will cause the mentioned problems. Check the battery and cable connections. If they are good, replace the starter, the solenoid is working but the motor won't spin once the gear is engaged because of bad contacts, bad brushes, or fried windings in the motor armature.

A: mrjones makes a great point. And to a certain extent, I agree with you about the re-badge job on these cars. They could've done a much better job to distance/distinguish these cars from their Nissan counterparts. This is one thing Lexus/Toyota does extremely well and Honda/Acura, too. Even dating back to ES 250 days, they did a lot to differentiate it from the Camry. They even put frameless windows (signature ES design although not anymore) on those. However, I wouldn't go as far as to say these cars were mistakes and solely responsible for cheapening their image. Despite the re-badge job, the I30's were cash cows for Infiniti before G35's came along. Also, despite subtle differences between it and the Maxima, you will be surprised how most people don't know that it's the same car. As for QX4, these were slow sellers and I wouldn't blame solely on the subtle re-badge job. If Lexus can pull it off with their LX470, why can't Infiniti? So then what really cheapened their image? There are many factors (poor re-badging job is part of it) and I think it's more to do with quality than anything else. Sure, the engines were alright (most notably the VQ engine) but the materials that went into the car, especially in the interior were cheap quality. The type of materials they used on these cars were unacceptable for a luxury car. Best example is its flagship, the Q45 (the only car that's not re-badged). You should take a look at the interior. They put the same radio unit used in cheaper cars like the I30/Maxima and others. When I see that, it's hard to justify paying $50k for it when I can easily get the Lexus. No wonder it was such a poor seller. As for them using cheap materials, I can understand their situation to a certain extent since they were in trouble financially at the time these cars were built. And also because of the same reason, they probably couldn't go any further than to simply re-badge these cars. They've certainly improved in that department the last few years starting with the M35/45 and now with the new G35. One interesting fact. The Infiniti I30 (aka Cefiro) design is what's known as the Maxima in other countries whereas the Maxima design that you see here is only available here. So it's actually Maxima that was re-badged.

Q: Car making a ticking noise??
I have a 1996 Infiniti I30. I hear a ticking noise when the car is driving, usually while accelerating or having just acceleratd. I have been hearing this for about a month. It sounds like it is coming from the tire areas but my tires seem to be fine. Any ideas? It's been about a month since this started so I don't think it's an emergency worth rushing to the mechanic for. Am I wrong? The noise is coming from the front driver's side tire area. And I don't really know much about cars beyond how to fill a gas tank. I should also mention that my odometer broke awhile ago too. It might be unrelated.

A: if its coming from the front end like next to the tires, try to make a sharp turn or turn your wheels all the way to both sides in a parking lot or something and see if that noise is worse then. if that is the case, then its your "cv" joints. if its not coming from your wheels and it just ticks when you accelerate then check your could have a bad lifter. to fix a bad lifter, right before you have your oil changed, run the oil out of your car to when it says on the dip stick that you need to add a quart, add transmission fluid to the oil instead of more oil. run tranny fluid in your engine for about 400 miles or a little more and see if that works. then change your oil and put 10-40 in it. the thicker the oil the better for ticking.

I just got an oil change yesterday and after I asked the man if everything was alright with my 1996 infiniti i30 and he said there weren't any problems. After I looked at the receipt, it read that my the oil filter no longer performs intended function. I would like to know if that was before they replaced the oil filter or now in general is it not working. Also has anyone had this problem.. how much would it be to repair? thanks

A: Dont worry about it he was reffering to the old filter when you take a car in to have the oil changed the automaticly change the filter to your car is fine
