I would say that it is stuck in 4th gear. A friend let me drive her car and I first realized acceleration sucked and it just sounded wrong at high speeds. I tested it is D1, D2 and drive and still the same. I looked at the transmission fluid and it seemed black. Any answers would be greatly appreciated
A: It's probably time for a new transmission. ATF should be red. You might have heard a transmission service will cure the problem, this is not true. ATF has a lot of detergent additives in it (you can clean your hands with it...) and burned fluid builds up varnish in the clutches. new fluid will wash away these varnish deposits, probably washing the clutches away too. It is common for an overdue transmission service to immobilize a car, almost immediately. Take it to a good transmission shop (ask local mechanics who they like, use the one you get the most referrals to) and have them check it out, it will probably need to be rebuilt or replaced.

Q: 2000-2002 Infiniti g20 Timing Belt or Chain?
Thinking of buying this car used between the years of 2000 to 2002. Does it use a timing belt or chain? Is a chain better than a belt? How often would you need to change either, and what estimate for the cost?

A: You have a timing chain. Actually, there are three chains. Each head has a small chain that runs the two cams and then there is one that runs around both of the cam drives and this chain even drives the water pump.
Event is chains of rebels does exist because they don't break quite as easily. However, they do stretch quite a bit and the other flip side is that they are quite a bit noisier.
The approximate cost is about $400 give or take about 50 since we are going into the front of the motor and there's always the possibility of broken parts. It's not that we expect this to happen, but sometimes it does, so you are better off with a quote bearing a safety net.
G20s are okay cars, but they are a bit underpowered. Of course the flip side to that is greater economy.
You could always rationalize it this way: it's probably capable of maintaining any speed limit in this country. If someone were looking for a high-performance vehicle, they would not be looking at one of these anyway. Infiniti is a great car, hi line of Nissan. You get a lot for your money, and they last a long time.

I need 4 new tires for my 2000 Infiniti G20 ASAP. So obviously this is a 2 part question.
First, what brands/models of tires are a good value? I do not need high end, racing, or performance tires, but I do want quality tires that will survive normal city/highway driving. (I average around 16000 miles annually if that makes any diference)
Secondly, where is a good place to buy tires? I usually end up at places like Goodyear or Sears, simply because I recognize the brand name and trust them more than the hole-in-the-wall local shops. But I also feel like these brand-name stores are most likely to take advantage of my ignorance. Is there any particular big name store that truly provides good customer service and good value? I am willing to go to an independent shop if the recommendations are strong. I live in Los Feliz, CA, so I can go anywhere in the San Fernando Valley or LA.

On my 2000 Infiniti G20 the seatbelt light stays on all the time even if i click in the seatbelt this happened after I cleaned with wet rag inside the car (interior) what can I do about this?

A: Check to see if you may have unplugged the sensors. Under each seat there is a wire with a plug on it. If this gets disconnected it will think the seat belt isn't fastened. You will need to get way under the seat to see it.
Q: why does my battery and brake light come on at the same time?

A: for some strange reason this happens anytime there's an intermittent problem with the charging system on those cars,since is not a permanent problem its really hard to find also,what i usually do is drive them,and get then to do it then scan the computer,this will tell you if it was a lack of voltage at the time or just an intermittent problem,just guessing on this one id say it was a temporary lack of voltage and that could be caused by an over draw from the battery,the alternator could also have caused this to happen,you may be pulling too much power from the battery,have the out put of the alternator checked,that may be a bad alternator on it or it might not be grounding good,hope you find it.
