Q: 1991 Infiniti G20 Cruise Control stopped working ...suggestions?
I'm hoping someone will be able to provide a helpful solution for why a cruise control would stop working in a 1991 G20 very recently. It was operating fine right up until the car was jumped by an inexperienced person which blew the 75Amp fuse and destroyed alternator--both were replaced including the battery. However, now the Cruise Control does not work. The green Cruise indicator button on dash illuminates after it's depressed, however cruise control itself does not respond at all. Fuses all "appear" to be fine. How many relay units are used for the cruise control unit? What other possibilities should I consider? Someone indicated that the relay probably isn't the likely cause because if the relay was bad, the green light wouldn't stay on at all, which mine does. Bad relays light up as the button is held, but as soon it is released, the light would go turn off. What about the cruise control unit itself? Where is it located? Is there an Internet blow out diagram to show the associated parts--fuses, relays, control unit, etc?

A: The cruise control;some of it is under the dash the rest in under the hood.there are two types one is vacuum the other is electrical I believe yours is electrical.I have a 91 G20 also.I worked for infiniti and I remember some of its problems. You must check fuses with a test light, not just looking will tell you if a fuse is bad.The cruise control fuse may not be on the fuse panel it may be elsewhere. If you call the parts dept or the service dept at infiniti they may be able to tell you where that fuse is.Yes it may be the cruise control relay that burned up when you had the other problem. Those relays are not cheap. If the fuse proves to be ok then I suspect the relay is bad. What you could do is take the relay out(ask the parts dept where its located)take it to pick a part (auto wrecking yard)with you and get one used.Make sure you take the old one with you so you can match up the prongs. hope this helps

Q: 1991 Infiniti G20 question?
Does a 1991 Infiniti G20 come with a v4 or a v6? Or would I have to check with the seller? I am really concerned about gas, and I know someone who's selling it for $900. Is it worth buying?

A: I believe it is a 2.0lt 140hp 4 cylinder. It is basically a gussied up Nissan Sentra. It was well reviewed in its day and was basically reliable. Figure 23-25 mpg in town, and 30+ on the hwy. For $900, you are not likely to do much better for the money, and some parts are shared with a Sentra, so they should be readily available used.

Q: engine was so unstable after engine and car wash?
my 1991 infiniti g20 had its engine wash yesterday. after which it was jerking everytime I drive.. might be flooded spark plugs? help! thanks for all the help.. anyway, I already did pulled the spark plugs and found them flooded! I already dried them up and to my happiness the car drove smoothly.. WHICH only lasted for about an half hour.. it went back to it's jerking again.. what more might be the causes?

A: You got water somewhere it doesn't belong Washing the engine is a bad idea - if you like to keep it clean, use rags to wipe it down, not high pressure water under the hood Most likely you got water under the cap or in the holes where the spark plugs are. trying pulling the wires and using a hairdryer to evaporate what might be in there. If you pull all of them, make sure you know which is which before putting them back!!!

Q: I had an alternator go bad without the idiot light coming on. The bulb was good though, so how can that be?
The main problem is that I kept driving until the battery was dead and I was stranded. I would like to prevent this from occurring again. It was on a 1991 Infiniti G20.

A: older and wiser needs to do a little study to learn what an alternator light was called in the past, before there were check engine lights. The only way to eliminate the problem is to install a volt meter to the accessory side of the ignition system, and learn how to read it. This will allow you to monitor the voltage in the system. If the alternator quits charging for any reason, the voltage will start dropping. Any readings that are 12 volts and below while you are driving, if the guage is installed properly, will indicate that you need to have the vehicle checked out before it quits again.

Q: Need advice on how much to pay?
Please serious professional advice only. I'm planning on buying a used second car and was wondering how much i should be willing to pay. It is a 1991 Infiniti G20, and has 370,000 km on it. New rad, brakes pump & water pump, automatic, and 4 cylinder. The seller is asking $500 cad or about $505 U.S. I am concerned about mileage, fuel efficiency and emission levels. My price on it is about $300/$350. What do you think? it is in good driving condition according to owner. I have not seen the car (except photograph).

A: $500 for a car and it runs??? If it runs and stops and nothing is broke, then it is a damn good price. Miles are high. If you have to get it to pass inspection, that is probably the problem and could be expensive or never pass. You can't expect much for that money, take it on a long test drive and if it makes it without incident, it is worth the money, if not, then how much are you willing to put into it to make it reliable and pass inspection.

Dealer stated that I would be looking at several hundred dollar to at least $1000

A: I would guess that its either something inside the switch, or the relay. I think the advise you got, might be incorrect. The relay could be shot, but the switch might still be working, that is why the light comes on. But who knows for sure; you need to test both the switch and the relay to find out. I can't direct you to a wirring diagram, but it shouldn't be that hard to have the two components tested. If they both pass, then personally, I'd be taking it to the dealership.
